Magic was dangerous, and those using it were sought out and killed.
Forced to leave her home, Riona is stalked by nightmarish shadow figures, as she tries to uncover the truth of who she is. Her choices, and discoveries, could mean the destruction, or salvation of the people she loves most.

This book is perfect for anyone looking for a strong female heroine. Riona, although she came from humble beginnings, takes her new destiny in stride and never backs down when her friends are in danger.
Malinda knows how to tell a really good, compelling story. The world she's built is vivid and rich with history. For a new author, she has such a strong voice already. I look forward to more from her!
I’m going to start off by saying, I don’t read much fantasy. That being said, the fantasy I DO read needs to have a strong heroine. Malinda Andrews definitely accomplished that with Riona. She’s tough, but still remains caring towards her family and friends.
My absolute favorite character is Feoras. The bond between Riona and her dragon is the best part of the book. I haven’t read any books about dragons, but I have a feeling this one is unique, especially their special bond. Not to mention, Feoras is hilarious. Some of their dialogue made me laugh out loud.
Last but not least, I enjoyed the author’s writing style. I was able to clearly picture everything because of her descriptions of the setting, characters, etc. My only criticism of this book is that sometimes I’d forget who was who and would need to flip back to remember. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes strong heroines, adventure stories, and funny dragons! I can’t wait to see where this series goes.
Fantastic! What a creation of a whole complex in-depth world, bounty of imagination! Full of adventure, secrets, and mystery- this read is certain to keep you intrigued! Written with such care for imagery and with beautifully interesting character details, I can only HOPE that this series/series-to-be will materialize onto the big screen- because it will be AMAZING!! Can't say enough how much I enjoyed it and appreciated falling for the details of the intertwining and woven storylines- top notch! I would definitely say this decade is ready and worthy of suitable, new strong and enduring characters such as these! REALLY excited for the second book to be released, and to see what else this new, young author brings in the years to come! Loved it!!!!
Solid fantasy series with good character development and excellent attention to detail. Definitely worth a read.

Malinda beautifully crafted a magical world where her heroine Riona and her Dragon Feoras live. The book was well paced and the descriptions of the land was complex and incredible! If you like fantasy books I highly recommend. I look forward to more books by this author.
Stunning! Absolutely stunning! I'm not much of a reader, and I especially don't read fantasy. Having said that, the visual imagery this author uses draws you right in and makes this a book that is VERY hard to put down! As you read you feel like you're right in the middle of the story, watching the whole thing unfold right before your eyes. I can still see the dragon circling around above my head, or winking at me from across the room. I'm excited to read the next book! Everyone needs to give this a read! )
